From the Campaign Trail
Last week, President Joe Biden suddenly dropped out of the 2024 presidential contest and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. With the election only 101 days away, the North Carolina Ag Partnership wanted to flag some concerning aspects of Harris’ record on Ag issues.
- As California’s Attorney General, Harris aggressively defended the state’s extreme animal welfare laws, which invariably drove up production costs and put farmers out of business.
- Harris supports efforts to update the nutrition guidelines to encourage Americans to eat less meat to fight climate change.
- Finally, while in the U.S. Senate, Harris sponsored legislation to enact the so-called Green New Deal, which would drastically impact agriculture and the economy.
Despite Harris’ support for these policies that would crush North Carolina farmers, Sarah Taber, the Democratic nominee for Agriculture Commissioner, declared that she proudly supported Kamala Harris.
While candidates will certainly discuss issues that will impact farmers, the mainstream media does not always care to cover them. The NC Ag Partnership dispatch, however, will provide timely content to ensure that North Carolina farmers know what is at stake for farmers at the ballot box this November.
We strongly encourage you to sign up for our newsletter and encourage all your friends and family to sign up so they know what to do before heading to the ballot box this November.
